This is an electric version of the Ariel. It's called the X-1, built by Wrightspeed.

It's a gutted Atom chasis containing the electric system. Fabricating a car from scratch with all the R&D is phenominally expensive. Taking a lightweight production car (the Atom), gutting it and using it as a testbed to develope his electrics is an incredibly smart move - it's no doubt saved him a huge amount of money and time. Check what parallel developement large car companies made during GM's EV phase - the others modified existing production cars to catch up the EV tech quickly.

I've always wanted to see an electric car race against gas cars in a circuit battle and not just a drag race. Like a 5 lap Tsukuba battle on best motoring vids or something.

That was unexpected

A lot of people are saying this is not an electric car. The Wrightspeed X-1 concept uses an Ariel Atom chassis, so it does look the same but is modified to accept an all-electric powertrain. That's why they call it a "proof-of-concept". The production version will undoubtedly look different.

Ariel Atom is a thermic car...6 cyl. 300hp with supercharger not an electric car...
